Pugneys Park
Short Visit to the park

October has always held a special place in my heart. There's something undeniably magical about the crisp air, the scent of fallen leaves, and the way the world transforms into a canvas of fiery reds, brilliant oranges, and mellow golds. This past weekend, seeking to soak up every last drop of this seasonal splendour, I packed my camera and headed to a local gem: Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield.
And what a day it was! The weather gods truly smiled upon us, gracing us with a bright, clear sky and sunshine that felt like a warm hug. It was one of those perfect autumn days – cool enough for a cozy scarf but bright enough to make sunglasses a necessity.
As I ambled along the winding paths, the park was alive with the gentle buzz of activity. Families were enjoying picnics, cyclists zipped by, and dog walkers ambled leisurely. But for me, the main attraction, as always, was the stunning natural beauty. The trees, still clinging to their vibrant foliage, shimmered against the azure sky.
My first mission was to capture some of the park's most charming residents: the geese. These magnificent birds, often found gracefully gliding across the lake or waddling confidently on the grassy banks, were out in full force. I managed to snap a few shots as they preened and paddled, their white feathers stark against the deeper blues of the water and the rich greens of the grass. Their honks and calls added a lively soundtrack to the peaceful morning.
It wasn't long before the sun began its descent, painting the sky with those incredible warm tones that photographers (and anyone with eyes, really!) adore – the golden hour. Pugneys takes on an almost ethereal glow at this time of day. The lake shimmered like liquid gold, reflecting the fiery trees, and every leaf seemed to catch the light, burning bright with its own inner warmth. I tried my best to capture the magic, the way the low sun cast long, dramatic shadows and infused everything with a soft, inviting radiance.
Speaking of capturing details, I also took a moment to appreciate the simple beauty of the park's wooden benches. Often overlooked, these quiet observers of countless conversations and tranquil moments have a story to tell. The weathered wood, etched with the marks of time and elements, caught the golden light beautifully. I love the texture and character they add to the landscape.
It truly was an invigorating and inspiring visit. Pugneys Park, with its expansive lake and picturesque surroundings, always delivers, but on a perfect autumn day like this, it truly shines. If you're ever in the Wakefield area during October, I highly recommend a visit. Grab your camera, breathe in the crisp air, and let the golden beauty of autumn at Pugneys enchant you.
